Huawei HarmonyOS Blocks Binance Installation — How to Fix It

Published on 2026-03-03 | 8 min

How to resolve installation blocks when installing the Binance app on Huawei HarmonyOS devices, including disabling Pure Mode and allowing external app installations.

After upgrading to HarmonyOS, Huawei phones often block Binance app installation with a message like "To protect your phone's security, this installation has been blocked." This isn't a Binance issue — it's HarmonyOS's "Pure Mode" at work. Disabling it allows normal installation.

Why Is It Blocked?

HarmonyOS has a "Pure Mode" feature enabled by default. It only allows apps installed from the Huawei AppGallery — all APK files downloaded via browsers or other channels are blocked. Since Binance isn't in the Huawei AppGallery, installation is inevitably blocked.

First, download the Binance app installation file to your phone, then follow these steps to resolve the block.

Disabling Pure Mode

HarmonyOS 3.0 and above:

  1. Open "Settings"
  2. Find "Security"
  3. Tap "More Security Settings"
  4. Find "Pure Mode" or "External App Downloads"
  5. Toggle off "Pure Mode"
  6. The system will warn about potential security risks — confirm to disable

HarmonyOS 2.0:

  1. Open "Settings"
  2. Find "Security"
  3. Tap "More Security Settings"
  4. Enable "Allow installation from external sources"

After disabling Pure Mode, go to your file manager, find the downloaded Binance APK, and tap to install.

Still Can't Install After Disabling Pure Mode?

Some Huawei phones show a secondary confirmation even after Pure Mode is off:

  1. When the prompt appears, don't tap "Cancel" immediately
  2. Look carefully for an "Install Anyway" or "Continue Installation" option
  3. Some versions require waiting a few seconds before the "Allow" button appears
  4. Tap allow and proceed with normal installation

Post-Installation Recommendations

After successfully installing the Binance app, consider re-enabling Pure Mode. The feature itself is beneficial — it prevents accidental installation of malicious apps. Only temporarily disable it when installing special apps like Binance.

To re-enable: Settings -> Security -> More Security Settings -> Enable Pure Mode.

Already-installed apps are unaffected — Pure Mode only applies to new installations.

Other Huawei-Specific Notes

Battery optimization Huawei's battery management is aggressive and may kill Binance in the background, preventing notifications. Fix:

  1. Settings -> Apps -> App Management -> find Binance
  2. Tap "Battery Usage"
  3. Disable "Auto-manage" and manually set to "Allow background activity"

Storage permissions Binance may need storage permissions for saving QR codes and screenshots. Grant necessary permissions in permission management.

Push notifications Huawei phones require explicit notification permissions. Go to Settings -> Notifications -> find Binance -> enable notification permissions including banners and lock screen display.

Updating the Binance App

Since Binance isn't in the Huawei AppGallery, the app won't auto-update. To update:

  1. Open the Binance app — a new version prompt will pop up
  2. Tap update and the app downloads the new version
  3. The download may trigger another Pure Mode block
  4. Repeat the disable Pure Mode -> install -> re-enable Pure Mode steps

While repeating this for every update is slightly inconvenient, keeping the app current is important for security and functionality. The Huawei Binance experience is otherwise identical to other Android phones — the only difference is this extra Pure Mode step during installation and updates.
